In September 2017, Ozcare will be opening its doors to their newest multi-million dollar aged care facility in Hervey Bay. The 154 bed facility has been designed to be state-of-the-art and makes the most of the area’s beautiful views and cool sea breezes. With this in mind, louvres were the ideal solution for maximizing air flow and ventilation.
Natural cross-flow ventilation was a key element for keeping the residents comfortable during the warmer months and keeping energy consumption to a minimum. It was also vital that the louvres were capable of sealing properly when cooling and heating systems were in use, or when they needed to close off the outside elements, whether it be the cold during winter or the potential cyclonic conditions associated with the sub-tropical climate.
When closed, Safetyline Jalousie’s louvre windows are weatherproof seals achieve unrivalled Category 5 cyclone ratings, providing maximum protection from the elements. An often overlooked but critical metric to achieve maximum occupant comfort is low air infiltration. Safetyline Jalousie louvres significantly outperform the industry standard at an impressive 0.25L/s m2 (this is 6 times better than conventional glass on glass louvres). With a water penetration resistance of 800Pa, Safetyline Jalousie louvres almost triple the performance of glass on glass louvres and due to their unique balustrade compliance could also be installed from floor to ceiling in the private rooms and living spaces without the need for any additional railings.
At the heart of every aged care facility is a desire to protect and promote the health and wellbeing of its residents. Louvres have often been overlooked due to safety, security and various other regulatory obstacles. In addition to creating a comfortable living space, Safetyline Jalousie louvres help to create a safe environment. Safetyline Jalousie’s louvre blades are top pivotal so there are no exposed glass edges internally, reducing the risk of injury in the event of any falls by the elderly residents. Security is inbuilt via the horizontal louvre bearer which is tested to withstand up to 550kg of force. This performance is approximately 10 times better than glass on glass louvres and also eliminates the need for unsightly intruder bars.
As the number of elderly Australians grows rapidly each year, so too does the requirement for suitable housing and facilities to cater for their needs. Safetyline Jalousie louvre windows are the ideal natural ventilation solution for aged care facilities offering;
