Glen Street Theatre in Belrose is a thriving cultural hub for Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The redevelopment incorporated a new state-of-the-art library into the theatre site, with the architect pursuing natural ventilation while eliminating insects attracted to the theatre’s bright lights—typically challenging requirements for public performance spaces.
Safetyline Jalousie’s automated louvre windows with internal insect screens were selected after extensive analysis. The system was the only option capable of achieving the 1400mm width required between vertical steel blades, essential to the building’s aesthetic. The extra-wide span reduced the total number of window banks needed, requiring fewer electrical components including actuators, motors and controllers, ultimately proving more affordable than narrower louvre alternatives while complementing the overall design with distinctive horizontal bars.
