The Bundaberg Aquatic Centre is making impressive progress towards its anticipated completion in April 2025, with excitement building around its state-of-the-art facilities. The centre will feature three fully accessible pools, set to open to the public in the early second half of 2025.
Once operational, the facility will provide year-round opportunities for training, remedial therapies, and recreational swimming, catering to people of all ages and abilities. Bundaberg Mayor Helen Blackburn emphasised the community value of the project, stating, “The design ensures that everyone can benefit, from young children learning to swim to those who want to exercise, or it can be a spot used to simply have fun and cool down.”
Construction is advancing steadily, with external works such as parking, pathways, security fencing, and landscaping preparation underway. Following the completion of construction, the next steps will include pool filling, commissioning and testing of services, and the installation of essential equipment, such as scoreboards and timing systems.
A standout feature of the facility is its competition pool, designed to Olympic specifications with a depth of two metres and a width of 25 metres. This world-class pool will cater to professional training and events, positioning the centre as a potential venue for regional competitions.
The project has incorporated glass and aluminium louvre windows throughout the facility, supplied by Safetyline Jalousie. Nearly the full suite of louvre products, including the SJ – Jalousie, Thermique, and Proteger systems, have been installed by Fitout Glass & Aluminium. These advanced louvre systems deliver natural ventilation, precise temperature and air quality control, and critical fire safety. The prefabricated design allows the louvres to integrate effortlessly into the commercial framing, ensuring quick and efficient installation, minimising contractor time on site, and helping to keep the project on schedule.
As the Bundaberg Aquatic Centre takes shape, it promises to become a vital community hub, offering health, wellness, and recreation opportunities for residents and visitors alike. The inclusion of glass louvre windows not only enhances the building’s aesthetics but also aligns with energy-efficient and sustainable design goals.
This project highlights demonstrates how modern louvre systems contribute to functional and efficient public facilities.
